The potato shoe on a platform. The sole adds height evenly, front and back, so there is no wobbly heel pitch to adapt to. You just stand taller and the trousers you bought slightly long finally work.

The platform also puts more material between you and cold pavement, which nobody mentions in summer and everybody appreciates in November. Cork footbed inside, as always.
